October 2001

In October the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan will present the most comprehensive exhibition on pearls ever assembled. Called simply "Pearls," the show opens October 13, 2001, and runs through April 12, 2002, and will chronicle the natural history of pearls, looking at these sought-after treasures from the points of view of science, art, literature, and fabulously fine jewelry...

One of the highlights of this unique exhibition will be a focus on the decorative use of pearls, especially in jewelry—a stunning example of which is this extraordinary brooch designed by artist Ella Gafter for Ellagem. "Pearls" will open in New York and then travel to Chicago's Field Museum where it will be on view from June 28, 2002, through January 5, 2003.
