An aristocracy of craftsmen

Each jewel, a unique work of artaristocracy of craftsmen
 | | Recently, during the celebration of the Fashion Week in Paris, Daniel Vergés, editor-in-chief of Arte Y Joya, awarded Ella Gafter the prize created by the magazine for finalists of the Tahitian Pearl Trophy contest, for jewelry with pearls. This important event included the presence of Mr. Verjés on the international jury. Through these pages we will be providing a look at the designer and her collection.
Ella Gafter is a creative artist with passion for extremes. Extremes of beauty. Of intrinsic value. Of brilliant craftsmanship. She designs and manufactures jewelry in a way that recalls the work of medieval and renaissance artists, who served royal courts and merchant princes with exquisitely wrought objects of priceless worth.
Ella's craftsmen resemble a medieval guild. Based in Italy, and trained to their craft from childhood, these artisans share her vision, and have dedicated their talent and skill exclusively to her oeuvre. Among them are true Masters and many have worked with her for more than 20 years.
Ella creates one-of-a-kind sculptures in precious gems and metals. These pieces are extraordinary for their 3-dimensionality. For the existing freshness with which they marry materials and colors. And for their revival of spectacular Tremblant form, ignored by jewelry designers for decades, because it is so difficult to execute.
Ella Gafter was born in Poland during the Second World War. She came to Rome as a young woman to make jewelry. Before long, she had an international clientel. Today, Ella's partner is her daughter, Talila, a Harvard-educated business professional. Talila has greatly expanded their international presence, and maintains her permanent office in New York.
